Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn has challenged a notice issued by Maharashtra’s Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) over his advertisement for Vimal Elaichi. He has called the notice unfair and said the authorities had already made up their minds before hearing his side.
In a petition filed before the Bombay High Court, Devgn said he had promoted only Vimal Elaichi and not Vimal Pan Masala. He also claimed that the FDA wrongly linked the two products and issued the notice without properly considering his explanation.
The FDA had sent notices to Ajay Devgn, Shah Rukh Khan and Tiger Shroff on August 16. The agency said their advertisements could be promoting pan masala indirectly and asked them to stop the campaign.
Devgn replied to the notice on August 21, saying that Vimal Elaichi was a separate product and its sale had not been banned.
He has now approached the Bombay High Court, arguing that the FDA’s action affects his right to work. The court is expected to hear his petition on November 4.
