IndiGo May Raise Ticket Prices as Fuel Costs Increase

Times of Navi Mumbai | Business News

Air travel with IndiGo may become more expensive as the airline faces a sharp rise in fuel costs. CEO Willie Walsh said the airline may have to increase ticket prices to cover some of these extra expenses.

IndiGo’s fuel bill rose by 67.2% to nearly ₹9,967 crore between July and September 2026. The airline reported a loss of ₹1,879 crore during this period.

Why Are Ticket Prices Rising?

Fuel is one of the biggest costs for airlines. IndiGo said it had recovered only about 60% of the extra fuel expenses through higher fares and other steps.

The falling value of the Indian rupee against the US dollar has also increased the airline’s costs.

What Does This Mean for Passengers?

Walsh said IndiGo would try to keep fare increases under control, but some ticket prices may rise.

The airline still expects strong travel demand during the festive season. It also plans to continue adding aircraft and hiring pilots for future growth.

Passengers planning to travel should compare ticket prices before booking, as fares can change depending on the route and travel date.
