Greater Noida: A major fraud case has come to light at Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Greater Noida, where a bank employee is accused of illegally taking money from customers’ accounts.
According to the investigation, the woman allegedly worked with a male friend to transfer money from several bank accounts without the account holders’ permission. The total amount involved is estimated to be around ₹17 crore.
The fraud reportedly continued for nearly three years.
How Did the Fraud Happen?
The accused woman was working as an assistant at PNB’s Accher Pi-1 branch in Greater Noida.
According to the FIR, she allegedly used the login IDs of six bank officials to make unauthorised transactions. These IDs allowed bank employees to access the bank’s main computer system.
Investigators believe that the woman transferred customers’ money into an account opened for her friend. From there, the money was moved to six other bank accounts.
How Was the Fraud Discovered?
The case came to light when a customer named Sangita checked her bank passbook on September 16, 2026.
She noticed three transactions that she had never made. When she contacted the bank, the accused employee allegedly told her that the money was used for a property investment.
However, the bank later found that the vouchers for these transactions were missing.
During questioning, the woman allegedly admitted to making illegal transfers and destroying the transaction records. She also reportedly disabled mobile alerts so customers would not receive messages about the transactions.
Around 35 Customers Reported Losses
According to police, around 35 bank customers have approached them so far.
The FIR mentions unauthorised transactions worth ₹12.12 crore, while the total suspected fraud amount is estimated at nearly ₹17 crore.
The bank also found that the login IDs of six officials, including the senior branch manager and customer service staff, were used.
Police are investigating whether these officials knowingly shared their login details or whether their IDs were misused without permission.
CBI to Investigate the Case
ACP Greater Noida Sanchit Sharma said that the case is being registered with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The investigation will now look into how the money was transferred, who was involved and whether other people helped in the fraud.
The case has raised serious concerns about the safety of customers’ money and the misuse of bank employees’ login details.
