Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the BJP will form the government again in Uttar Pradesh after the 2027 Assembly elections. He also promised that the party would bring the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to the state if it returns to power.
Speaking at a BJP meeting in Lucknow, Shah said the party was confident of winning a third straight term. He also criticised Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying they had little chance of forming the next government.
What is the Uniform Civil Code?
The Uniform Civil Code means having one common set of laws for all citizens in personal matters such as marriage, divorce and inheritance, instead of different rules based on religion.
Uttarakhand became the first state to pass a UCC law in 2024. Some other states, including Gujarat and Assam, have also taken steps towards introducing it.
Shah Asks BJP Workers to Prepare for 2027
Shah asked BJP workers to put aside their differences and work together to win the next election. He said that party workers play an important role in winning elections.
He also praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government, saying Uttar Pradesh had made progress in development and law and order over the past 10 years.
Shah also responded to Opposition leaders’ claims about vote-related issues and challenged them to discuss the allegations in Parliament.
The BJP is now preparing its organisation for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
