Bengaluru: Karnataka has released its final voter list, showing a total of about 4.55 crore registered voters. Nearly 99.32 lakh fewer names appear in the final list than in the earlier voter records.
The new list includes more than 2.25 crore men, 2.29 crore women and 2,841 voters registered under the third gender category.
Why Were Names Removed?
The Election Commission carried out a special check of voter records to update the list. The first draft had left out more than 1.07 crore names. After the draft was published, around 8.64 lakh voters were added to the final list.
Voters can check their names online through the Election Commission’s voter search portal or the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer’s website.
How to Check Your Name
- Open the Election Commission’s voter search website.
- Choose “Search by EPIC”.
- Enter your voter ID number and select Karnataka.
- Complete the security check and click “Search”.
If your name does not appear, check the official voter list or contact election officials before assuming it has been removed.
The final list is important because only eligible voters whose names are on the electoral roll can vote in an election.
