Former IAS Officer Divya Mittal to Contest UP Elections with New Party

Lucknow: Former IAS officer Divya Mittal has announced that her new party, Janneeti Bharat Party, will contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. She said the party would field strong candidates in the state’s 403 seats wherever suitable candidates are available.

Mittal made the announcement while speaking to people in Chunar, Mirzapur, on Saturday. Her statement came 10 days after she announced her entry into politics.

Three Main Promises of Her Party

Mittal launched Janneeti Bharat Party on October 15. She said the party would focus on three main ideas:

  • People first: People should have a say in decisions that affect their lives.
  • Fair decisions: Decisions should be based on people’s needs, not their identity.
  • Accountability: Leaders should explain their work to the public and take responsibility for their actions.

The party’s message is based on the idea that people should play a key role in how the country is run.

Why Did Divya Mittal Leave the IAS?

Mittal resigned from the Indian Administrative Service on August 30, and the Uttar Pradesh government accepted her resignation on September 15.

She said she wanted to work directly with people and solve their problems through politics rather than join an existing political party. She has described Uttar Pradesh as her karmabhoomi, meaning the place where she wants to do her work.

Who Is Divya Mittal?

Divya Mittal is originally from Rewari, Haryana. She studied at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore before working in London. She later returned to India to prepare for the civil services examination.

She cleared the UPSC examination in 2013 and joined the IAS. During her career, she served as district magistrate in Sant Kabir Nagar, Mirzapur and Deoria.

She became known to many people during her time in Mirzapur, where her administration worked to bring piped drinking water to Lahuria Dah village. Residents there had depended on water tankers for many years.

With her new political party, Mittal now plans to enter the electoral contest in Uttar Pradesh in 2027.
